BED, BREAKFAST & QUILT |
|
BBQ is not THAT kind of bar-b-q – it’s a BED, BREAKFAST & QUILT getaway. Now that that’s out of the way, what exactly do you do at BBQ??? BBQ is a quilting getaway offered twice per year – in the Spring and Fall. Attendance is limited to 35 quilters. BBQ is held at the Adventurer Hotel on the Beach in Wildwood, New Jersey.
It is a casual atmosphere - sweats, PJs or whatever is comfortable to you, is welcome. Our quilting area is in the conference room on the 7th floor overlooking the ocean. There is underground parking with easy elevator access to the 7th Floor. Rooms have full size refrigerator, microwave, coffee makers (you provide filter and coffee), and dishes, small kitchen table and a sofa. All rooms have ocean view if not ocean front. Rooms can accommodate 6 quilters easily!
You arrive on Friday afternoon and are welcome to set up your space after 3. We do lock the room from between 4-5 so we can have dinner. Activities officially start at 7 pm with door prizes, wine, cheese and tons of goodies. We also have soda and water for those not caring for wine. Some girls bring their favorite cookies or candies to share in addition to what we provide. We have an easy workshop or a lecture on Friday evening as well as a show & tell of past BBQ projects and introductions.
We provide breakfast for you in the dining room downstairs on Saturday. You have your choice of classes on Saturday. Lunch is on your own. Depending on the weather, many girls head down the boardwalk to the Doo Wop Diner for waffles & ice cream. After lunch, you return to continue your Saturday class. At 4:30, we begin closing up shop so we can head down one block to Little Italy, a delicious Italian restaurant. You have several dinner choices. Soft drinks or coffee are included. Any appetizers or drinks from the bar are your responsibility. We return from the restaurant and enjoy desserts provided by us in the conference room. You can choose to work on your class project, do your own thing or participate in another easy class or lecture on Saturday evening. The room is open all night and the last one there is responsible for locking up. Merry or Sarah generally stay late and help anyone who has a question or a problem with their project if they require it. The girls also start to turn this into a pajama party around the time the class finishes so they can quilt comfy (it isn’t a requirement to come in p.js though).
Sunday is the same thing as Saturday except that we do a half day workshop. We are permitted late check out and are usually finished up by 1:00.
Calico & Cotton quilt shop gives us discount coupons in case you'd like to visit them on your way home. They are about 15 miles away in Ocean City. We have directions at BBQ. Two Country Quilters (that's Linda and Sarah) brings various hard to find and specialty quilting items for your optional purchase. We also try to have basic “stuff” on hand in case you forgot something.
We do offer the ability to purchase kits and discounted supplies for your BBQ projects. The order form is attached to your class registration. We’re hoping to have pictures and all the specific info up on the website in the next few weeks.
We try to always offer a wide variety of learning opportunities so that quilters of all skill levels can leave BBQ with some type of new knowledge. We have a great bunch of girls that come and we think we're kind of fun too!
We do have commuter rates for those who live nearby. We do have single BBQ’ers who are willing to share a room with a new friend. In fact, many of our regular BBQ’ers met their current roomies this way.
